"Don" Hafer, 83, passed peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. Born in Wyomissing, son of the late John J. and Kathryn M. (Reifsnyder) Hafer, Don is survived by his daughter, Sheila Hafer; grandson, Karim Wright; stepdaughter, Toni Gelsinger of Reading; sister-in-law, Betty (Dimascio) Hafer, formerly of West Reading; niece, Lisa (Hafer) Watson; one grand-niece and three grand-nephews of CA; and lifelong friend of 80 years, Richard Baumbach. He was preceded in death by wife Gloria (Ludwig) Hafer, brother Richard "Dick" Hafer and nephew Timothy Hafer. A graduate of Wyomissing High School (1947), Don served in the Korean War from 3/1951 to 4/1953 as rank sergeant, and toured Europe as a trumpet player with Eddie Fisher and the United States Army Band. Thereafter, Don played upright and acoustic bass with Glenn Miller Band directed by Ray McKinley, Tex Beneke Orchestra, Jimmy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra Jr., Sammy Davis Jr., The Today Show with Hugh Downs, Vegas and Copacabana. Locally, Don played with the Reading Symphony Orchestra, Rajah Temple Dance and Concert Band and the Don Hafer Trio entertaining Berks County's nightlife during the 1970's. Don later worked for U.S. Testing Inc. and Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant as a radiologist. A member of the Civil War Round Table and the Masons, Don enjoyed history, traveling, was good-natured and had a great sense of humor. Service and interment will be held in Laureldale Cemetery Chapel, Friday February 1st at 11 AM. Henninger Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements. www.henningerfuneralhome.com.

Hafer J r ., a former Oley Valley School Board president and language teacher i n the Fleetwood School District, died of natural causes Saturday af t er noon in Lehigh Valley Hospital, near Allentown, where he had bee n a pa tient for one week. Hafer, 59, of 8843 Maxway Road, Breinigsv i ll e, Le high County, was the husband of Georgeann T. (Geist) Hafer . He was em ployed for three years as a part-time policeman in Oley T o wn shi p unti l 1965. Hafer taught German in Fleetwood High school f o r s eve n years , until 1969. He was next employed for 18 yearsb yG i lber t As sociate s until 1987. He was next employed for foury e ar s a s a p arame dic by v arious ambulance companies, and he last w as e mplo yed a s a nur se techni cal assistant in Lehigh Valley Ho s pita l until 1995 . Charles E. Hafer, formerly of Reading, died June 18, 2012, at the age of 92. For the past few years he lived at Keystone Villa in Douglassville, PA. Born in Stony Creek Mills, he was the son of the late Raymond A. and Bertha (Seidel) Hafer. He served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator during WWII. He received two bronze stars for his service in the Pacific. He was a Master Plumber and worked for Wilmer Fisher's Plumbing and Heating until he retired. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Fern D. (Fleish-man) Hafer; his son, Charles E. Hafer; daughter, Linda L. Lilienfeld; grandsons, Peter Hafer and J. Keith Lilien-feld; granddaughter, Alison Hafer; great-grandsons, Cole and Carter Lilienfeld. Other survivors include a brother, Raymond Hafer; and three sisters: Grace Walter, Fern Lincoln and Virginia Manel. Services are private and a celebration of life gathering will be in the near future. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., Mt. Penn, is in charge of arrangements.         Charles Earl Hafer and Fern Darlene Fleishman were married on 31 August 1946 in Reading, PA. Fern Darlene Fleishman18 was born on 17 October 1927 in Muhlenberg Township, Berks Co., PA. She died on 15 September 2013 at the age of 85 in Phoenixville, PA. Fern D. Hafer, 85, formerly of Reading, passed away in the Phoenixville Hospital.
Fern was was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Ritz) Fleishman. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be missed by her entire family.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Lilienfeld, and husband, Jon; son, Charles E. Hafer Jr., and wife, Laura; grandchildren, J. Keith Lilienfeld, Alison (Hafer) Cianciosi, and Peter Hafer; great-grandsons, Cole and Carter Lilienfeld. Fern was one of three children, brothers being Donald and Russell.
